Though originally from southern California, Shelly was born and raised in Colombia, South America, the daughter of missionary parents. She and her family moved back to the United States when she was 16. She received a B.A. in Cross Cultural Communications and Language Analysis, her R.N. from Georgia Perimeter College, and B.S.N. from Jacksonville University.

Shelly worked for one year in Pediatric Oncology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and 15 years in the Day Surgery at Eastside Medical Center. She trained in aesthetic facial rejuvenation at The Aesthetic Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.
